Nose Implant Surgery (Augmentation Rhinoplasty)
The nose is one of the most important parts of the face because it is of the first things that people notice upon meeting someone. Therefore, it should be considered an essential part of making a good first impression. With the assistance of Dr. Tan and our staff, clients are one step away from making the perfect first impression every time.
Nose implant surgery is a simple procedure. First, an incision hidden in the nostril is created. Through this incision a dorsal nasal implant is placed in a central location on the face and secured underneath the bone lining (also known as the periosteum). After the implant is put in the proper position and secured, the procedure is finished.
Dr. Tan specializes in using low profile implants (usually 3mm in height), and prefers to use intravenous sedation in addition to local anesthesia. By combining both methods the procedure is made even safer and targets only the nose.
It’s important to note that silicone implants can only be used on people of Oriental descent. Other clients, particularly of Caucasian or North Indian background, require different materials such as bone and cartilage to get the same procedure done. This is due to having thinner skin in the nasal region, which makes silicone implants more likely to be expelled after being implanted.
Healing is a short process after undergoing nose implant surgery. Right after the procedure our clients will be able to leave the clinic on their own two feet. Stabilizing tape can be removed after seven days and sutures will dissolve automatically. Swelling may be noticeable at first but will go away after a few days. Slight bruising may also occur, but will be gone after approximately two weeks.
Nose implant surgery may sound like a scary procedure, but let Dr. Tan and the rest of us reassure you that you will be happy with the work we do in fixing the nasal bridge and restoring symmetry to your nose.
Nose Reshaping Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
Sometimes people are unhappy with the way their nose looks. Genetics can sometimes be unkind to our clients and result in a less than desirable nose. Whether it’s too big, too crooked or has something else wrong with it, Dr. Tan will fix it to each client’s liking.
Nose reshaping surgery can be done in either one of two ways: using a closed approach or an open approach. Both methods involve using hidden incisions to shape the cartilage and bone in such a way that it accomplishes what our clients desire.
Each reshaping surgery is different, so we require that a formal consultation occur between our clients and Dr. Tan. He will speak with them and assess their needs before any surgery is done. In some cases, an ENT surgeon may be needed to assist Dr. Tan with the procedure. Just like most other surgeries performed by Dr. Tan, local anesthesia will be used in nose reshaping surgery, along with a recommended intravenous sedation.
Once the procedure is finished, our clients can remove the stabilizing tape after seven days. Swelling that may occur around the nose will disappear after a few days. A splint and nasal packs will also be required for healing for any bone work that is done. After the splint is removed (it will take about a week) most everyday activities can be resumed. Recovery time is approximately two weeks and remaining bruises can be concealed very easily.
With Dr. Tan’s assistance, hook-like noses, nostrils that are too wide and damaged septa will never again be a problem for our clients.
